"Hello. My name is Andrew Nyeko and I am the new Volunteer Recruitment Manager at Grit. I come from an educational background having taught in various secondary schools across London and the North East of England. I then transitioned into further education working in Durham and more recently in Greater London.
Volunteering has always been a passion of mine and has been since I was a teenager. My first experience of volunteering was coaching sports whilst playing semi-professional basketball. I then went off to university and continued volunteering there too. There I volunteered on a Grit Student Leadership programme. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of volunteering and as an added bonus was awarded the Volunteering England Gold Award by the Mayor of Islington for delivering a series of highly successful study skills workshops.
Over the years I have volunteered extensively for Grit, initially on the Coaching for Success programme, then Student Leadership programme, before volunteering on a residential in the North of England. The experience of witnessing tangible change amongst the young participants was absolutely fantastic.
What led me to take up the role of Volunteer Recruitment Manager was the opportunity to pursue a meaningful career with a real sense of purpose. My hope is to inspire others to volunteer and work for a charity that makes a real difference in the lives of young people."
