It's been a while, but it feels good to be back working in Southend-on-Sea (Essex) again. We began working with a small group of young people in an intensive workshop in early December. All of the young people were dealing with complex issues, had spent time outside of formal education, were in care or who were being supported by Children's Services.
It was tough for the young people, engaging in difficult conversations about their life and how their future currently looks. For many of the group, being honest about their life so far was incredibly painful.
But the young people demonstrated immense grit and resilience as they worked to explore how their life could be different to the future that had looked so predictable and inescapable.
The group were excited to meet their volunteer life coaches on the last day of the workshop. The young people have set themselves goals such as getting into college, improving their behaviour and working on family relationships. Life coaches will support young people to move towards these goals through fortnightly individual coaching sessions, monthly follow-up sessions and other activities that the volunteers are looking to arrange for them.
We will continue to follow this group of young people as they journey through the programme, providing updates on their progress and achievements.
