On the Road Again

Following the long return after the winter break we’ve been gearing up for one of our busiest ever terms.

We’ll be working with pupils, staff and volunteer coaches at the Harrow Club (a west London youth club) with their partner schools: Kensington Aldridge Academy, All Saints Catholic College and the Chelsea Academy while over in Sandwell we’ll be working with pupils and staff at the Q3 Academy (part of the Mercian Trust) and, back in London, coaching pupils at Ark Elvin Academy.

Meanwhile in the University of Greenwich there will be Grit workshops for Student Leaders, we’re going back to the University of Hull to deliver to Nursing students and Nutrition & Dietetic students, and we’re thrilled to be running our first workshop for students at the Universities of Wolverhampton and Northampton.

We’re also working with students nurses at the University of Cardiff, and a range of students as part of two big programmes at Nottingham Trent University.  We’ll be back at the University of Wrexham and, at the University of Westminster, we’re running a big project working with students from Fashion, Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Business School and Design, Creative & Digital industries.

Our Black Leaders programme is coming to the University of Manchester, the University of Nottingham, NTU and Hull, we’ll be working with Students of Colour at Solent University and the University of Greenwich, and with students of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean heritage at Bath Spa.

And we’ll be working with staff at the Universities of Westminster and Hull.

So, in the coming month or two we’ll making good use of motorways and rail services,  spreading Grit far and wide across the UK…

See you on the road sometime soon.

Get some Grit

If you’ve ever wondered about what it is like to do a Grit programme we’ve got a fantastic opportunity to try it out. And at no cost!

As part of the Staff College Festival we’re delivering a couple of short sessions, open to any professional. The Staff College deliver professional development and leadership support for those working in public sector and partner organisations.

Grit in press…

“Time and again, young people talk about the impact made by a teacher who doesn’t just wield authority or judgement but also listens and challenges.” Mercian Trust Director of Behaviour and Wellbeing, Mark Goodwin, writes in the TES about how Grit is supporting a coaching approach to a rise in challenging behaviour in Q3 Academy, Tipton…

… and in Wonkhe, home of the UK higher education debate,  our very own Ellie Garraway and Jon Down write about the paradox of choice: how we can support students to navigate increasingly complex decisions, own their choices and empower them to actively create experiences that get them where they want to go.

Thinking university

I’d only ever thought about what jobs I could do. Now I’m thinking about sixth form, college or even university.”

Harry took part in CoacHE, a partnership programme between the University of Sheffield and Grit which aims to increase the number of white working class boys from deprived areas of South Yorkshire applying to university.
