Being Curious Together
Taking a deep dive
On the back of the very positive independent evaluation of Grit’s work in three local authorities, in partnership with the Nottingham Institute of Education at Nottingham Trent University, we are hosting a couple of FREE half-day roundtables that take a deep dive into what Grit is all about, what it does and what it can empower staff teams to achieve.
Seminars are open to senior staff and commissioners that work in Children’s Services or related services.
Seminars will be taking place
In Nottingham on 14th May from 1pm to 4pm
In London (Chancery Labe tube) 20th May from 1pm to 4pm
Email vicky@grit.org.uk now to find out more or book a place.
And pass it on!
Thank you David Blunkett
Last month saw Lord Blunkett stepping down from Grit’s Advisory Board.
David Blunkett’s has been one of the most successful Labour politicians of his generation. A former leader of Sheffield City Council, he was MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough for 28 years. He went on to become a member of Tony Blair’s Cabinet serving variously as Education and Employment Secretary, Home Secretary and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
But we will remember him most for the massive contribution he made to Grit over the years: the introductions, the challenging questions and the sage advice. He was always generous with his time, approachable and very down to earth.
From everyone here at Grit, thank you!
Thinking like a coach
Recently Ellie and Emma led a session at the UKAT Tutoring Matters Webinar Series on Thinking Like a Coach. UKAT represents personal tutors and academic advisors in universities.
The session was all about transforming the way students are supported. It was energising to be in a space with so many dedicated professionals, all committed to discovering new ways to enhance student success.
The quality of participation and the questions asked blew us away. People were curious about how quickly trust can be built in a small group, whether age is a factor in the coaching style needed, how to engage those who seem disengaged, and how to coach students through setbacks and challenging relationships with their lecturers. It was a real joy to be curious together and explore the practical application of coaching in such a range of scenarios.
A huge thank you to UKAT for hosting such an engaging and thought-provoking series.
Grit in press
“A group workshop and individual coaching approach to training social workers has led to transformed mindsets and a qualitative improvement in work…”
Read Chris Rolph, Director of the Nottingham Institute of Education, on Grit in his Municipal Journal blog, Doing Things Differently. Chris headed up the team that produced an evaluation of our work with local authorities.
And we’re thrilled to see Grit’s work with Black Leaders and staff coaches at the University of Manchester acknowledged in University of Manchester Access and Student Support Impact Report 2024.
Postscript
… don’t forget, there’s still time to sponsor old Grit friend Robert Hutchinson who is running the TCS London Marathon Events in April raise money for Grit.
